Saturday sport: Wins for Kilkenny, Dublin and Wexford in Hurling

Gaelic games

Leinster hurling

There were wins for Dublin, Kilkenny and Wexford to kick off the Leinster Hurling Championship this evening.

The Dubs had to come from behind to get the better of Offaly by 1-25 to 2-19 at Parnell Park.

The Cats strolled to a 3-24 to 21 point win over Galway at Nowlan Park earlier with Adrian Mullen, Mossy Keoghan and Eoin Cody hitting the back of the net.

Wexford went down to 14 men but held on to beat Antrim by 2-24 to 19 points.

Football

The Munster football championship clash between Cork and Kerry has gone to extra time.

The old rivals finished level 1-20 to 2-17 after 70 minutes with Eoghan MacSweeney levelling things up with the final kick off the game.

Clare await the winners of that game in the final.

The Banner booked their passage with a six point win over Tipperary.

Mayo were made to work hard to reach the Connacht final after a 20 point to 13 win over Leitrim.

Down scored two late goals to win their Ulster quarter final with Fermanagh by 2-19 to 0-23.

Women's football

The Dublin ladies have gotten the better of foes Meath in Round 1 of the Leinster football championship.

A goal in either half helped the Girls in Blue to a 2-10 to 1-6 victory at Páirc Tailteann.

Soccer

League of Ireland

The Women's Premier Division is well underway this evening.

Peamount United won against DLR Waves with a score of 3-2 while Wexford and Shamrock Rovers also finished at 3-2, with the Wexford side taking the win.

Earlier, Galway United beat fellow Connacht side Sligo Rovers 3-1 while Shelbourne smashed Cork City 7-0.

Defending champions Athlone Town look set to beat Treaty United with the scoreline sitting at 3-1 with less than five minutes of normal time left.

Meanwhile, Waterford have confirmed that men's first-team manager Keith Long has left the club with immediate effect.

Last night's 4-0 defeat at home to Sligo Rovers leaves the Blues on a six-game losing run and eighth in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division.

Long joined the club in 2023, and guided them to promotion from the First Division in his first season.

In a statement, Waterford thanked Long for his efforts, but said "the recent run of results meant it was necessary for a change."

Premier League

Aston Villa have thrashed Newcastle 4-1 to keep themselves in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

They remain outside the top five - but are just two points behind their third placed opponents in the Premier League.

Manchester City went fourth with their 2-nil victory at Everton.

Brentford won 4-2 against Brighton to stay in with a chance of European football.

West Ham drew 1-all with bottom side Southampton, while 10-man Crystal Palace held Bournemouth nil-nil.

That result means Southampton have now equalled Derby's record low points total and it gives Leicester City another chance to avoid the drop against Liverpool tomorrow.

Rugby

Leinster and Ulster are contesting a URC interpro derby at the Aviva Stadium this evening.

In the second half, Leinster lead that game by 24 points to 10.

Connacht battled hard but were beaten 34-29 by the Stormers in Cape Town earlier.

Munster missed a late chance to equalise and fell to a 16-13 loss at home to the Bulls.

Snooker

The World Snooker Championship is underway at the Crucible in Sheffield today.

Former champion Neil Robertson trails Chris Wakelin by 6 frames to 1 in their clash.

Meanwhile three time winner Mark Williams is level 4-4 with China's Yize Wu.

The first to 10 frames will progress.
