Council planners give green light for more than 120 new homes in Birr
More than 120 new homes are due to be built in Birr, after Offaly County Council gave the go-ahead this week for two separate housing developments in the Townparks and Seffin area of the town.
Some 66 new homes are to be built in the Railway Road, Townpark and Seffin areas after Eoin Garry submitted a planning application to the local planning authority in April of last year for a housing development which will include 46 build-to-rent apartments in four separate three-storey blocks.
The other 20 homes which form part of the project consist of a mix of three and four bed detached and semi-detached homes.
The plans also include provision for the construction of a new distributor road.
The second Birr housing project – permission for which was sought by developers, Beech Avenue Properties Ltd, last year – will see the construction of 58 new homes.
These are due to be built in the existing residential developments at Macregol Páirc and Corr na Meala, both of which are located in the Townspark and Seffin areas of the town.
The 58 homes, which are to be constructed on a 3.47 hectare site, consist of a mix of housing types, including ten one/ two bed terraced bungalows in three blocks; twelve two bed two-storey terraced blocks and 14 two-storey four bed semi-detached houses.
A section of a new distributor road, pathways and a cycle track with parking, lighting, public open space and site development works also form part of the planning application which was submitted a year ago, on April 11, 2024.
Offaly County Council sought further information on both housing projects, and among those to make representations to the council was Kinnity based Fine Gael Cllr, and now TD, John Clendennen.
The planning application submitted by Beech Avenue Properties Ltd was granted subject to 26 conditions, while Eoin Garry's planning application was granted subject to 29 conditions.
Both developments were given the green light by the local authority on Tuesday of this week, April 15.
At the time of going to press, the conditions attached to the grants of planning permission were not yet available to view on the Offaly County Council website.
