Tullamore DEW tight-lipped on reported production cuts

Representatives of Tullamore D.E.W. whiskey have declined to comment this week on reports that production at its distillery in Clonminch will be scaled back this year.

The global uncertainty around the impact of President Donald Trump's on-again off-again tariff plans has extended to the spirits sector, with the US a vital export market for Irish whiskey.

It was reported locally this week that a decision was taken to suspend production at the Tullamore distillery for a number of months this year.

The Offaly Independent contacted Tullamore D.E.W. this week and was told that our query should be directed to a UK-based public relations firm.

When asked about the reported cuts to production, the PR firm replied: "We have nothing further to add to this news".

The spokesperson also declined to comment on whether there would be any impact on jobs at the local facility.

The €35 million state-of-the-art whiskey distillery in Tullamore was officially opened by distiller William Grant & Sons Ltd in September of 2014.
