Birr students present sustainable beef project in Brussels

The St Brendan's Community School Certified Irish Angus team travelled to Brussels this week to present their sustainable beef project in the European Parliament.

Students Joey, Ben, Moya and Jack were presenting their project "Incremental Changes Yield Significant Improvements in Sustainable Beef Production" in Tesco HQ, Bord Bia, Teagasc Grange as well as the IFA office and European Parliament in Brussels.

The students met with several MEP's to discuss the future of farming in Ireland and how we can make it more sustainable.

Over the week, they also enjoyed tours of Hilton Foods in Drogheda, Airfield Estate in Dublin and competed in a 'Steak Challenge' in Lismullin Cookery School to cook the tastiest Certified Irish Angus ribeye.

St Brendan's extend a huge thanks to Charles, William and Mark from Certified Irish Angus as well as Marie from ABP and Eilis from Kepak who coordinated the trip.

The team will continue their project until March 2026 where they will return to Croke Park and an overall winner will be announced.
