Ireland AM visits Tullamore school ahead of Texas trip
Students in the Sacred Heart School in Tullamore made an appearance on Ireland AM on Virgin Media Television yesterday morning (Tuesday) as they prepare to travel to Texas in May of this year.
Ireland AM's roving weatherman, Deric Ó h'Artagáin, visited the school to draw attention to 'The Steminists', the school's robotics team, who are raising funds for their trip to the US for the World Robotics Championship.
"We have our Steminists here. We are into all things science, technology, maths, and engineering. We won the VEX IQ competition, and were awarded the excellence award, so now we're heading to Texas," said teacher Aisling Burke.
Five students, Ms Burke and Ms Conneely will all be travelling to Dallas, but first the school need to raise funds to pay for the trip.
As of this morning, a GoFundMe page set up cover the costs of the trip to Texas has garnered €14,195 of it's €30,000 target from some 242 donations.
When they travel to Texas in May, 'The Steminists' will make history as the first ever all-female Irish team to compete at the competition.
