Nolan meets with IDA over phased closure of Cardinal Health Tullamore
Offaly TD Carol Nolan recently met with regional IDA Ireland managers to discuss future options for the workers at Cardinal Health in Tullamore, as well as the long-term future of its premises.
Last August it emerged that the Cardinal Health facility, at the Sragh Industrial Estate would be closing on a phased basis. The announcement last year said the site would close by March of 2026.
In a statement this morning (Wednesday), Deputy Nolan said she held a meeting with IDA Ireland's Regional Manager for the Midlands, Carole Green, and its head of Regional Enterprise Development, Ray O'Connor, "to discuss their ongoing efforts to secure a positive future for the workers of Cardinal Health in Tullamore".
The Independent TD said she was committed to ensuring all options would be explored and pursued to enable the site to be retained as a source of employment for the long term.
"When the announcement came in back in August of last year the entire town of Tullamore was shocked," she said.
"Unfortunately, it is often the way with these things that they then drop off the political or industrial radar. I was adamant that I would not allow that to happen to Cardinal Health and its workers."
Following the meeting with the IDA officials, she said she was impressed with the level of work it was engaged in with respect to the Cardinal Health Tullamore site.
"I know following our meeting that there is a real determination at senior IDA level to do everything possible to bring employment back to town," she added.
"I will continue my engagement with IDA and indeed the Department of Enterprise to ensure that we can achieve the very best outcome from what was very grim decision to close the plant by 2026.
"I will not forget the workers or their families," concluded Deputy Nolan.
