Preparations underway for upcoming St Patrick's Day parade in Banagher

Preparations are continuing for the hosting of this year's St Patrick's Day parade in Banagher.

Always a popular occasion in the town's social fabric, the parade has a starting time of 3pm on Monday, March 17. Committee chairperson, Tony Cormican, stated that there's great community interest in the parade this year.

"Following on from our successful St Patrick's Day parade in 2024, we are looking forward to a similar occasion on Monday, March 17. There was great community interest in last year's parade and a similar atmosphere is building ahead of this year," Tony said

Numerous community groups and organisations from Banagher and neighbouring towns are set to participate in the parade, with the chairperson noting that road closures will be in place from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in order to accommodate it.

"We are promising those participating and those in attendance a great day of entertainment. There will be live music prior to and after the parade from Rise and Shine, who will keep the national feast day mood upbeat with their tunes," Tony stated.

The chairperson complimented the annual vintage display which has become an integral part of the Banagher St Patrick's Day parade.

"The vintage cars and tractors display are always a highlight of our parade and we are grateful for their continued participation year-on-year," Tony added.

There will be numerous prizes on offer on the day, with Tony confirming that there will be an award of a plaque and €150 for the 'Best Overall' parade entry. There will also be cash prizes for 'Best Original' entry and 'Best Vintage' entry. Further prizes on the day will be awarded to the 'Best Dressed Adult Spectator', 'Best Dressed Child Spectator', 'Best Dressed Pet' and 'Best Window Display.

The chairperson also expressed his gratitude to the local Gardai who will assist with the road closures to enable the parade take place.

"I would encourage all participants and onlookers to get into the national feast day spirit and enjoy what will be a great occasion in Banagher," Tony said.
