Offaly native wins performance award at Junk Kouture World Final
Offaly native Lucy Champ is part of Moate Community School's Junk Kouture World Finalist team who took home the Performance Award at the Junk Kouture World Finals.
The 17-year old designed 'Alpacalypse' alongside students Emma Kinahan and Emma Keane.
The EUROSPAR Junk Kouture World Final took place on Tuesday night, March 4, in The Helix in Dublin.
'Alpacalypse' was made from 5kg of organic alpaca wool with twine and leather details, and aims to champion responsible consumption and a circular economy.
That wasn't the only success for Midlands designers, as Killucan native Clodagh Ramsey took home the night's biggest award.
Clodagh, a student from Wilson's Hospital School in Mullingar, took home the awards for both Junk Kouture Dublin Designer of the Year, and Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year.
The design, titled 'Aquacultural’, was made from 32kg of organic waste, which included 2000 mussel shells.
The final highlighted 60 finalist teams from Ireland, the UK, France, Italy, the USA, and the UAE that presented breathtaking couture designs made entirely from recycled materials.
This year’s event marked 15 years of Junk Kouture in Ireland, celebrating its impact in fostering sustainable, creative talent of Irish young people, showcasing Ireland’s pivotal role in promoting youth creativity and circular innovation since the inception of what is now a global movement.
