Local musicians feature as TG4 series comes to Shannonbridge

Geantraí, the TG4 Irish traditional music series, has returned for its 19th season with this weekend's episode coming from Luker's in Shannonbridge.

The programme, which will be broadcast on Sunday, March 2, at 10.30pm, will feature a range of talented musical performers, including Athlone singer-songwriter Eva Coyle and the Cork-based Athlone instrumentalist Bean Dolan.

Sunday's episode of Geantraí will also feature sublime music from Paul Finn (Box) Trish Clarke (Fiddle) Cillian Doheny (Guitar), Sean O Dalaigh (fiddle), Vera Craughwell (Piano box) Tony Tracey (Banjo) Liam Loughrey (cittern), Damian Mullane (Box) Sean O Meara (Guitar) and Stephen Markham.

Hosted by acclaimed singer Pauline Scanlon, the 13-episode series kicked off in Leitrim, at the famed Cryan's Pub in Carrick-on-Shannon.

From there, Pauline set off across Ireland, with stops in Donegal, Mayo, Offaly, Limerick, and Cork, visiting lesser-known hotspots where local talent flourishes in the heart of the Irish session tradition.

The series highlights newly composed tunes and songs, offering viewers a taste of Ireland’s evolving musical landscape every Sunday evening.

"Geantraí has always been about the living tradition of Irish music. This series continues to celebrate that, bringing the music and its creators into the spotlight," said Scanlon. "We've focused on capturing not just the music, but the environments where these sessions happen - places where the heart of Irish culture beats strongest."

Geantraí from Luker's, Shannonbridge, airs on TG4 this Sunday at 10.30pm.
