Government funding allocated to restore historic buildings in Offaly

Temple Connor Church in Clonmacnoise is one of 24 historic building in County Offaly to be granted funding by the Government under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2025 to support the repair and restoration of older buildings with complex needs.

The building was allocated funding towards roof maintenance, a sum of €25,234 being allocated towards the works.

A number of historic buildings throughout the county will benefit from the financial allocations, the main recipients being Green Street, Birr (€22,000), Clonmore, Clonbulloge (€18,000), Derryweelan, Geahill (€18,000), Ballinacarrig Mill, Ballynacarrig, Ballyboy (€17,000) and Canal Stores, Belmont (€17,000).

Over €245,000 was awarded to 24 projects within the county for the conservation and protection of architectural heritage.

Welcoming the announcement, Offaly Fine Gael TD John Clendennen, said that the Government was committed to ensuring towns and villages receive vital funding in order to maintain and care for our historic buildings.

“The Built Heritage Investment Scheme is a perfect example of an initiative to revitalise our town centres and to bring vacant and derelict buildings back into use," the TD said
