Kilbeggan songwriter Larissa Tormey to feature in EuroSong

Kilbeggan singer-songwriter Larissa Tormey has played a key role in the preparation for tonight's EuroSong competition.

While the midlands performer won't make an appearance on stage tonight, her talents will be on full display as Norwegian singer Emmy performs the song Laika Party.

Larissa co-wrote the song alongside Emmy Kristine Guttulsrud Kristiansen, Erlend Guttulsrud Kristiansen, Henrik Østlund, and Truls Marius Aarra.

"She's a very talented little girl," Larissa said. "She will be taking part among six finalists in Ireland, and singing a song, Laika Party, which I co-wrote with four Norwegian songwriters. It was a very long road for us to get where we are.

The Kilbeggan songwriter explained the story behind the song, calling it "very special".

"It's based on a real story about a little dog Laika who went to space before humans did. The song is a little dancey, positive number which helps us to commemorate her."

Larissa has asked fans to vote for Emmy and Laika Song during tonight's EuroSong competition on RTE's Late Late Show.

"I'm the only Irish songwriter on this song. I'm kind of the reason why this song is in Ireland," Larissa said. "I'm very proud, and I hope you will like it. I want us to enter a positive song into Eurovision."
