Offaly Gardai conducting checkpoints with bank holiday weekend road safety operation underway
Gardai in Edenderry were among those conducting checkpoints this morning (Friday), amid a nationwide road safety operation for the St Brigid's Bank Holiday weekend.
The force shared a photo of one of the checkpoints in Edenderry today and said officers were focused on the enforcement of speeding, drink & drug driving, seatbelt compliance, mobile phone use, and dangerous driving offences.
An extensive Garda roads policing operation got underway at 7am yesterday, Thursday, and will run until 7am on Tuesday, February 4.
The Garda press office said every member of An Garda Síochána on duty over the long weekend will be out conducting road traffic enforcement activity.
Over the course of the St Brigid's Bank Holiday weekend last year, there were two road traffic fatalities and 11 serious injury collisions.
