Offaly Gardai issue warning about 'bogus tradesmen' calling after Storm Éowyn
Gardai have warned locals that "bogus tradesmen" may be calling to properties damaged by Storm Éowyn with fraudulent offers to carry out repair works.
A social media message posted by Laois-Offaly Gardai yesterday (Tuesday) highlighted this issue given the large number of properties that have been affected by the storm.
"Please be aware that there might be bogus tradesmen who will try to benefit from this," said the Garda post.
It shared the following advice about how to respond if someone calls to your house offering services:
* Ask for Identification.
* Note their details; their description, car registration, direction of travel etc.
* If you don't know them or didn't call them, don't let them in.
* Fit door viewer/ chain/ video doorbell.
* Lock the back door.
* If unsure, contact your local Garda station.
