Almost 80 Tullamore social housing units to come on stream

Almost 80 housing units in Tullamore should be available to people on the Offaly social housing list in the coming months.

The development, at Kingswood Drive, Arden Lane, Tullamore, consists of some 77 housing units. The approved housing body, Respond, acquired the first phase of the scheme, some 31 units in December, and said this week that is due to acquire the remaining 46 homes upon completion.

Respond said: "The people moving into these homes will be nominated by Offaly County Council from their social housing waiting list."

The 31 homes in phase one include 21 two-bedroom bungalows, six two-bedroom two-storey homes and four three-bedroom two-storey homes.

The project was constructed by Clonaslee-based construction company Carroll O'Keeffe for its client Whitebox Property Group.

"These homes will be safe, secure, lifetime homes for families who will be looking forward to building a community within their development and with the existing community.

"Respond will be there to support them to do this and develop links with the existing community in Tullamore also. As an Approved Housing Body and service provider, Respond have over 17, 000 tenants around the country with a tenant satisfaction rate of 89%," Respond said.

Offaly County Council notified members this week that the second phase is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.
