Temperatures in Midlands 'could hit minus 10' - Met Éireann

Met Éireann has said temperatures in the Midlands could fall as low as minus 10 during the middle part of this week.

Tonight (Monday) is expected to be cold, with temperatures lingering around freezing, or just slightly above freezing.

However, a much more severe cold spell is forecast for Tuesday night into Wednesday.

The air temperature forecast model on the Met Éireann website shows temperatures dropping as low as minus 10, or even minus 11, in Westmeath, Offaly, and other parts of the Midlands during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The air temperature model indicates that temperatures will remain below freezing for much of Wednesday morning, creating the prospect of hazardous travelling conditions for schoolgoers and commuters.

A nationwide yellow level snow-ice weather warning is in place for Ireland until 12 noon tomorrow.

A yellow level low temperature and ice warning is also in effect nationwide and will remain in place until midnight on Friday.
