'Deep retrofit' in Rhode highlighted as example of energy upgrade benefits
A company specialising in retrofits and home energy upgrades is highlighting a deep retrofit project it's currently undertaking in Rhode as an example of the benefits of retrofit works.
House2Home said the local project, which is underway at a home in Hillview, is transforming the property from a C3 to a B1 energy rating, delivering greater comfort and reduced energy bills along with a reduction in carbon emissions.
It added that the project in Rhode would feature energy-saving upgrades such as: Attic insulation to enhance heat retention; the installation of double-glazed windows and a new energy-efficient front door; a modern boiler with 3-zone heating controls for improved energy management; a 3.3kW solar PV system, utilising renewable energy to power the home; and additional electrical upgrades and home improvements, including a renovation of three bathrooms.
House2Home pointed out that Ireland is currently lagging behind in achieving its EU 2030 energy efficiency and climate targets, which aim for a 55% reduction in carbon emissions.
It said deep retrofitting is an essential step in helping Ireland bridge this gap, as upgrading homes to higher energy ratings plays a critical role in reducing residential energy consumption and emissions.
House2Home is also keen to highlight the financial support available through SEAI grants, saying the Rhode project benefitted from €9,325 in upfront funding, significantly offsetting the cost of the transformative upgrades.
House2Home is encouraging Offaly homeowners to explore the benefits of deep retrofitting and take proactive steps toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
