Milner breaks 4-minute mile mark in Boston

Mark Milner travelled to Boston, Massachusetts with his University of Portland team to compete at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted by Boston University, last Saturday.

Milner of Tullamore Harriers was in heat 2 of the mile and was aggressive right from the gun. The Killeigh native was in the shoulder of the pacemaker for the first four laps.

They passed 800m in 1:59, slightly off the target pace. Then Milner took the lead for the next three laps and kept the lead pack on pace to go sub 4.

In the last lap Beck Wittstadt of Duke College took the lead but Mark dug deep and hung on for a fantastic time of 3:59.20. This is an improvement of over 1.5 seconds in his previous best for the distance 4:00.79, which he ran in February at the same track facility.

Mark is now looking forward to Christmas at home before returning to Oregon for the indoor season.

New 3000m club record for Dunne

Meanwhile, James Dunne flew to Boston last weekend from Washington with the University of Georgetown team to compete at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted by Boston University.

James was racing his first 3000m since February 2022 and was in the lead pack from the starting pistol. The pace was relentless and he passed 1000m in 2:36.

As the race progressed, Dunne stuck with the fast pace and was rewarded with a significant new PB of 7:52.86. He ran 29 seconds for the last 200m as he looked to better his previous best and the Tullamore Harriers club record of 7:54.73.
