Offaly Camino Canal Way Walk to take place on February 1.
The 8th annual Offaly Camino Canal Way charity walk in aid of Self Help Africa takes place on St. Brigid's Day, February 1, 2025 and the organisers are hoping for a huge turnout over the first bank holiday of the New Year.
The walk, which sets out at 9am sharp from the Fiona Pender Memorial on the Grand Canal Way in Tullamore, will culminate with a special Mass at 2.30pm on Croghan Hill, followed by a BBQ.
Water/snack stops and toilet breaks will be stationed at Ballycommon and Daingean and walkers are invited to join the walk at any point along the scenic route from Tullamore to Croghan Hill.
Organisers of the charity walk have advised participants to pack a change of clothes which can be transported to Croghan Hill. As in previous years, the walk will incorporate a spiritual journey for many as it is being organised in conjunction with the Camino way (The Way of Saint James).
All donations to the 2025 Camino Walk will go towards a livelihoods and food security project in Baringo in Kenya. Self Help Africa is dedicated to ending hunger and poverty in rural Africa especially in East Africa in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda where some 26 million people are hungry and thirsty at this time and where someone is dying every 48 seconds.
As well as sponsorship cards, donations can also be made to the Camino Walk online at various facebook/social media fundraising pages set up by the participants taking part.
Organisers are encouraging everyone to support the Camino Walk, enjoy the beauty of nature, take in some exercise, enjoy the company of friends and family, along with supporting very worthy charity initiatives in Africa.
Anyone wishing to take part in the Camino Walk, or who wish to make a donation or sponsor a participant is asked to contact Laz Molloy on 086 6778807; Aislinn Molloy 087 0688530; Ricey Scully 086 8153047; Paul Galvin 087 8375407; Nora Kavanagh on 087 9945964; Siobhan Dunne Kelly at 087 8557796; Mark Plunkett on 083 0459377; Dave Kavanagh on 083 3720950; Vanessa Shortall on 087 7936794 or Tracey Dooley on 087 9557160.
