Tullamore Harriers trio in action in Turkey
Three Tullamore Harriers athletes competed on Sunday in the SPAR European Cross Country Championships which took place in Antalya, Turkey.
Cappincur native Laura Mooney, Ava O’Connor, and Tullamore's Danielle Donegan all were part of the 36-strong Irish team.
Laura produced a huge performance in the women’s U23 race, finishing 7th overall having been in the lead pack right from the start.
Afterwards, she described the course as challenging with the sand and inclines sapping the energy of those competing.
Danielle finished 8th in the U23 category last year this is the second top ten performance at European cross country by a member of Tullamore Harriers.
Ava was third home for Ireland in 37th place and as a scoring member of the team was able to help Ireland to a 5th place team result.
Danielle was next up in the senior women’s race. This was Danielle’s second senior international of 2024, having competed in the World Cross Country in Serbia earlier this year.
Over a distance of 7,834 metres, Danielle really stuck to the task throughout and finished 74th, with the Irish team coming 10th overall.
Danielle has significant experience racing at this level having been selected for each edition of the European cross country held since 2019.
No doubt, all three in action on Sunday will be back in the next edition of European Cross Country in Portugal next December.
