Work of two local charities highlighted at annual Black Tie Ball
The vital support provided to family carers in Offaly and across the country was praised at the annual Black Tie Charity Ball in Tullamore last weekend, which was held to raise funds for the service and also for Offaly-based charity, Power4Good.
Beth Wogan, Care Support Manager with the Laois/Offaly branch of Family Carers Ireland, highlighted some of the services provided by the charity to carers, including respite care in the home; emergency respite; education and training and free counselling sessions.
Molly Buckley, president of Power4Good, which was the second charity to benefit from the Black Tie Ball, outlined the work done by the Offaly-based charity which was established in 2005 to work with young people in Zambia who are coping with a disability.
Among the initiatives undertaken by Power4Good to date are a number of human rights projects; the funding of diesel for a school bus for children with special needs in the Zambian region of Mazabuka and the provision of funding, through the Michael Kelly Bursary, to enable vulnerable women in Zambia to attend university.
Molly also added that donations have been made by Power4Good to the autism units in Clonaslee Community College and also in Killeigh and Durrow national schools.
