Trolley watch: Over 530 patients waiting for a bed in Irish hospitals

There are 531 patients waiting for a bed in hospitals across the country, according to the latest figures from the Irish Midwives and Nurses Organisation (INMO).

Some 385 patients were waiting in emergency departments on Thursday morning, while 146 were waiting in wards elsewhere in hospitals.

The hospital with the highest number of patients without a bed was University Hospital Limerick, with 89 people on trolleys.

There were 33 people in the emergency department, with 56 in wards elsewhere in this hospital.

At Cork University Hospital, there were 67 patients waiting for a bed, with 55 people in the emergency department.

At the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, there were 39 patients without a bed, all in the emergency department.
