Snow-ice warning issued for Offaly tonight

There is a possibility of snowfall in Offaly tonight (Wednesday) according to Met Éireann, which has issued a snow-ice warning for the county along with several others.

Some significant snow is expected in parts of Munster tonight, with an orange level snow-ice warning being issued for Clare, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

Offaly is subject to the less severe yellow-level warning for snow and ice, along with Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, and Galway.

The weather warning will take effect at 9pm tonight and remain in place until 12 noon on Thursday.

Met Éireann said that, in Offaly and other yellow-level warning counties, snowfall accumulations were possible along with hazardous travelling conditions, poor visibility and travel disruption.

There has already been some travel disruption in the Midlands this morning (Wednesday), with a train service from Athlone to Westport being delayed in Athlone due to frozen points according to Irish Rail:

The cold weather is due to last for the remainder of this week, before transitioning to milder, but potentially quite wet and windy, conditions this weekend.
