Deep shock and sadness at untimely passing of Anna Fahey
There was deep shock and sadness in Tullamore and surrounding areas over the weekend when news emerged of the untimely passing of Anna Fahey, following a short illness.
The hugely-popular nurse who worked closely alongside her beloved husband, Dr. Frank Fahey, in his local GP practice in O'Square Square in Tullamore, passed away on Saturday last, November 16, surrounded by her loving family.
Tributes have been pouring in for the much-loved nurse who left an indelible mark on many generations of patients and their families through her work in her husband's GP practice where she was widely known for her kindness and compassion.
Described as a “kind, caring and wonderful person” and “an outstanding nurse” who had “time for everyone and always stopped and chatted” the late Anna Fahey was vivacious and graceful and was known far and wide for her big beaming smile and her sense of fun.
A keen golfer, she was one of the most popular members of Tullamore Golf Club, and she was also the much-adored mother of her four children, Aisline, Maeve, Patrick and John, of whom she was immensely proud.
The late Anna Fahey (neé Sampey) was a native of Buckill, Fairymount in county Roscommon, but made her home in her beloved Tullamore where she endeared herself to all aspects of the local community through her work as a nurse in her husband's GP practice and also through her involvement in many aspects of life in the town.
One of the many touching tributes to the late Anna Fahey's skills as a nurse from a former patient this week described her as being “very thorough in her work, it didn't feel like she was doing a job, it felt like she was taking care of one of her own family when she was taking care of my girls and me” while another former patient said she was “extremely professional, kind and patient in her work.”
The remains of the late Anna Fahey, Ross, Screggan will arrive at the Church of the Assumption, Tullamore at 6.30pm tomorrow evening (Tuesday, November 19) and she will be laid to rest in Clonminch Cemetery on Wednesday, November 20, following Requiem Mass at 11.15am.
