Date set for opening of new Tullamore ALDI supermarket

The new ALDI supermarket in Tullamore will officially open its doors to the public on Thursday, November 28 next at 8am, with the creation of 30 permanent jobs.

Representing an investment of €9.8 million, the new ALDI store will be located in the heart of Tullamore on a site at Kilbride Plaza that was formerly the home of the Texas Department Store.

The old ‘Texas’ site was purchased by Weavermay Ltd, and Cayenne Holdings in 2018 and was later divided in half, by agreement of both parties, each of whom have different plans for their respective sites.

Planning permission for the ALDI supermarket project was granted to Weavermay Ltd, a company headed up by local businessman Tony Flanagan, in 2022 and work began on clearing the Texas site late last year to make way for the new development.

Along with 1,644 sq. metres of retail space which includes off licence use, the new ALDI development incorporates a three-storey 874 sq. metre retail/office unit and a two-storey 281 sq. metre cafe. Car and bicycle parking is also provided for, as well as both pedestrian and cycle access to nearby Offaly Street.

The retailer spent more than €23 million with six Offaly-based suppliers last year, and now has 162 stores, including a Tullamore store in Cloncollig and also a store in Birr.

The new Tullamore ALDI store will be officially opened by the local team, led by Store Manager, Yasmin Rourke, on Thursday week, November 28, at 8am and all are welcome to drop by and browse the many opening offers in the town's newest supermarket.
