Offaly greyhound set for Irish Derby semi-final after running fastest quarter final time
Offaly greyhound Carrick Aldo, trained by David Murray, was the fastest heat winner in the quarter finals of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night.
Owned by Thomas Glynn from Edenderry, this son of Droopys Sydney – Minnies Hazel was sublime as he opened a comfortable lead from trap six in the third quarter final heat.
He clocked an excellent time of 29.15 but, in the finish, only managed to win by half a length as the powerful Boylesports Bob flew home for County Kilkenny trainer Paul Hennessy.
The semi finals of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby take place at Shelbourne Park this Saturday night, November 16, and will be broadcast on Virgin Media 3.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for Greyhound Racing Ireland, said: “Carrick Aldo produced an excellent 16.87 sectional to the third bend and is running out of his skin.
"The stadium was packed with greyhound enthusiasts, and I can’t wait for the semi-finals this Saturday," she added.
