Hauliers discuss industry challenges with Cowen in Brussels

Offaly MEP Barry Cowen visited the offices of the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) in Brussels this week for what he described as "a productive and insightful exchange" about "energy, transport policy, and the main challenges facing the haulage industry in Ireland".

The IRHA, established in 1973, represents and promotes the interests of licensed transport operators in Ireland and internationally.

During their meeting, MEP Cowen and IRHA representatives addressed several important upcoming legislative files, including the Combined Transport Directive and the Driving Licence Directive.

A major focus of the discussion was the growing shortage of young drivers within the industry, an issue that threatens the sustainability and growth of the transport sector in Ireland.

"I look forward to staying in close contact and working alongside the IRHA and their colleagues over the next five years to support and promote the haulage sector," said MEP Cowen.
