Offaly family syndicate "in total shock" over €500,000 scratch card windfall

A family syndicate from Offaly were all smiles as they arrived at Lottery HQ today (Tuesday) to claim their incredible €500,000 prize from an All Cash Extravaganza scratch card.

In a statement this evening, the National Lottery said the group, made up of three family members, could hardly believe it when the head of the syndicate decided to take a chance on the very last scratch card in the roll at Buckley’s SuperValu on Main Street in Birr.

After cashing in a smaller €20 win, she bought the ticket and scratched it in her car.

Initially, she thought they had won €50,000. Overjoyed, she rang the other syndicate members to share the good news.

But when they got together to check the ticket more closely, they realised it wasn’t €50,000—it was €500,000!

"The family was in total shock," said National Lottery spokesperson, who added that the group plans to use their winnings to clear off remaining mortgages and are already excitedly planning a well-deserved holiday.
