Dolan scores as Peamount win Champions League qualifier

Offaly's Ellen Dolan was among the goalscorers as Peamount United claimed a famous victory over Dinamo-BGU FK of Belarus in their Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.

Rebecca (Becky) Watkins was also part of the Peamount team which claimed a 2-1 win over their Belarusian opponents after extra-time, in a match played in Croatia.

Both Dolan and Watkins from Screggan, near Tullamore, are former Mucklagh FC players and they helped Peamount to win the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division title last season.

Peamount faced a tough challenge against a Dinamo-BGU outfit which included several Belarus internationals. But the reigning Women's Premier Division champions managed to overcome the Minsk outfit in warm conditions.

Mucklagh native Dolan scored in the sixth minute, the 18-year-old drilling home a good low finish, to give the Dublin side an early lead.

Dinamo-BGU equalised in the 33rd minute courtesy of Anna Sas and, ultimately, extra-time was required to separate the teams.

Substitute Kerri Letmon - who replaced the aforementioned Watkins - emerged as the Peamount hero when she scored the winning goal in the 96th minute.

The win means Peamount advance to the round one final, in which James O'Callaghan's charges will face host team Osijek on Saturday. A victory in that game would see the Peas move into round two.

In addition to Watkins and Dolan, another player from the Midlands, Westmeath's Lucy McCartan, was part on the Peamount team which defeated Dinamo-BGU.

Peamount United (vs Dinamo-BGU FK): Niamh Reid-Burke, Lauryn O'Callaghan, Jetta Berrill, Chloe Moloney, Lucy McCartan, Niamh Farrelly, Jess Fitzgerald, Ellen Dolan, Karen Duggan, Dearbhaile Beirne, Rebecca Watkins. Subs used: Kerri Letmon for Watkins (53 mins); Michelle Doonan for Beirne (74); Ciara Maher for Farrelly (88); Aoife Brophy for O'Callaghan (99); Ciara McManus for Fitzgerald (100).
