Galway Races triumph for Offaly-bred horse
There was a major Offaly success story at the Galway Races recently with Flying Bay winning the Bathshack Maiden Handicap flat race at the famed Ballybrit track.
Flying Bay is owned by Tomás Bennett and James Kelly of Bennett Kelly Construction and was bred in Lumcloon, Cloghan.
Former Doon and Offaly football star Vinny Claffey and John Rowney from Laois are also part of the syndicate.
Trained by Andrew Kinirons and ridden impressively by jockey Ben Coen, the horse - who was priced at odds of 15/2 - scooped the €10,200 prize in the Bathshack Maiden Handicap flat race.
Flying Bay finished ahead of second placed Vadali, with Colin Keane on board, while Newtown Duke, ridden by Chris Hayes, was third.
