Tullamore Olympian visits the Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service

by Emily Sheehan

Offaly native and Irish Olympian Gráinne Walsh paid a visit to the Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service (ODVSS) last week.

Gráinne, a boxer for the Irish Olympic team, is an avid supporter of the work carried out by the ODVSS, and their support for victims of domestic abuse.

Gráinne acted as one of the key speakers for the organisation as part of the International Women's Day March in May of 2023.

Anne Clarke, CEO of the ODVSS, praised Gráinne for her determination and her hard work required to qualify for the Olympics, drawing a parallel between a client's journey and that of Gráinne's; sharing in the strength and courage it takes when they encounter setbacks.

Spending the morning meeting staff of the service, Gráinne spoke about her experience and her excitement for the upcoming Olympics, keeping her focus on the here and now, and taking it one bout at a time.

The board of management and staff of the ODVSS wish Gráinne the best of luck in Paris, and said it would be eagerly following her progress at the Games.
