Tony McCormack.

Tony McCormack (Fianna Fail), Tullamore

We sent a questionnaire to all 12 candidates running in the Tullamore Electoral Area in the forthcoming Offaly County Council election. The responses were published in print in the Offaly Independent last Friday.

ADDRESS: Daingean Road, Tullamore.

PARTY: Fianna Fáil

SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST:

I am the current chairperson of the Offaly County Council estate management committee and Chairperson of Offaly Innovation and Design Centre. These committees are among a number that I am involved in. They represent my special areas of interest in Community Development, Employment, Housing, N52 Link Road, Healthcare, access to mental services and Education.

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING IN THIS ELECTION?

As a born and bred Tullamore man, I want to work with the people in my community to make it better.

I remember Tullamore as the capital town of the Midlands. I want to see the return of the vibrant town it once was.

WHAT ARE THE TWO BIGGEST ISSUES IN YOUR AREA?

N52 link Road is a very serious road safety issue and one that I am committed to ensuring that the link road is reinstated in the national roads programme. Housing. I recognise the need for increased housing delivery, both social and affordable.

I have urged Offaly County Council to explore the use of modular houses as a sustainable solution to address the housing shortage in County Offaly.

WHO DO YOU MOST ADMIRE AND WHY?

My mother, for how she navigated numerous challenges, while raising a family, teaching us right from wrong. For her kindness, thoughtfulness and her wisdom.

TELL US SOMETHING PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU:

I love spending time with family and friends and I like the odd pint of Guinness!
