Tim Farrell (Sinn Féin), Tullamore

We sent a questionnaire to all 12 candidates running in the Tullamore Electoral Area in the forthcoming Offaly County Council election. The responses were published in print in the Offaly Independent last Friday.

NAME: Tim Farrell

ADDRESS: 88 Convent View, Tullamore

PARTY: Sinn Féin

SPECIAL AREAS OF INTERESTS:

Affordable housing, regular maintenance of roads and footpaths and proper mental health services

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING IN THIS ELECTION?

To be the change that gives young people and my generation hope again.

Looking at the sky-high rent and unaffordable housing across the country and having a teenager starting his Leaving Cert next September, I would like to see him being able to build his home and family in Ireland.

This is out of reach for so many people of my generation due to years of the same Fianna Fail and Fine Gael policies.

It’s time for change and I will be part of that change.

WHAT ARE THE TWO BIGGEST ISSUES IN YOUR AREA?

Housing and the cost of living.

WHO DO YOU MOST ADMIRE AND WHY?

Michelle O’Neill, as she made history and has risen to the top at Stormont.

After taking up the role of First Minister, Michelle has proved to be a real leader for all helping to heal the divide.

If I can be half the councillor that Michelle was, the people of Offaly will be in good hands.

TELL US SOMETHING PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?

Gerry Adams once quoted me during a talk on Irish Unity.

While discussing Irish Unity I pointed out that we have a unique opportunity here to create a New Ireland with the benefit of all-Ireland infrastructure and planning.
