Maureen awarded Honorary Lifetime Friends accolade
Lord and Lady Rosse, the management and team at Birr Castle Demesne were delighted to present an Honorary Lifetime Friends Membership to Birr local Maureen de Forge recently.
The wonderful acknowledgement is in recognition and sincere appreciation of her support and ongoing contributions to the Demesne, the town of Birr and the wider community over many years. Formerly a P.E. teacher in St. Brendan’s Community School, Maureen is well-known and loved for her roles in the school shows as producer, director and choreographer.
Having previously involved been with the Nenagh Players, she joined Birr Stage Guild in 1972, an organisation which would go on to benefit immensely from her experience and love of the arts for over 50 years. Following the renovation of the Oxmantown Hall, now called Birr Theatre and Arts Centre, Maureen de Forge produced a performance of “HMS Pinafore”, exactly 100 years after the same show was put on in that theatre.
She continues her efforts in bringing music to the people of Birr and in enhancing the enjoyment of classical music and the arts for all, most recently with her dedication to the Birr Festival of Music and Trench Awards which has run for the past ten years every May bank holiday weekend in Birr Castle. www.birrcastle.com
