Whopping €56k raised at Cancer Fund for Children's first Bog Run in Offaly

Over 260 people took on Cancer Fund for Children’s Bog Run in Offaly recently and challenged themselves against nature in support of children and young people impacted by cancer. So far, this incredible event has raised over €56,000!

This was the charity’s first ever Bog Run at Lough Boora Discovery Park in Co. Offaly. Participants could choose between a senior 5k or 10k course, and even got the chance to get stuck in with their families, tackling the junior course which was open to children aged eight to 14. From trekking through bushes, clambering over fallen trees and marching through mud, participants put their physical endurance to the test and had great craic, all while raising funds for Cancer Fund for Children’s vital services.

This event was kindly sponsored by Lumcloon Energy and Halston Environmental and Planning. Representatives from these organisations also took on the bog and speaking on their challenge, Nigel Reams of Lumcloon Energy said: “Lumcloon Energy and Halston Environmental & Planning were so delighted to be involved in this year’s Bog Run. Our team decided to get stuck in and take on the bog as well and we’re so glad we did. It was a great day’s craic organised in support of children and young people impacted by cancer and we’re thrilled to have played a part in making it a reality.”

Colm Staunton added: “We are over the moon with how the Bog Run was received and the way that participants really embraced the challenge in support of Cancer Fund for Children’s vital services. This is a wonderful charity that we’re proud to partner with, especially as they progress with building Daisy Lodge in Cong, not far from the headquarters of Halston Environmental & Planning.”

This was our ninth Bog Run but our first time taking it to Co. Offaly and we are delighted with how it went. It really was a team effort and wouldn’t have been possible without our sponsors, Julie and the team from Bord na Móna who provided so much support, help from businesses like Frank and the team at Centra, Kilcormac who sponsored our goodie bags and all of the volunteers who came along on the day to support with registration, marshalling and generally keeping everything running smoothly. Not to mention our amazing participants who brought so much fun and energy on the day!

We’re looking forward to building on this event going forward so that we can be there for even more children and families when they need us most.”

Cancer Fund for Children is a non-profit organisation that provide vital services to children and young people (0-24) diagnosed with cancer across Ireland. Their team of Cancer Support Specialists provide informal emotional, social and therapeutic support, at home, in hospital and at the charity’s therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge, in Newcastle Co. Down. Plans are also underway for the development of the second Daisy Lodge centre in Cong, Co. Mayo. The charity’s mission is to help ensure that no child has to face cancer alone.
