Birr entertainer Dickie Donnelly is proud to announce he will front the Route 66 Big Band for their 25th anniversary Irish theatre tour. The band will perform in Birr Theatre and Arts Centre on April 13.

Birr entertainer to front big band's nationwide tour

Birr entertainer Dickie Donnelly will take to the stage with the Route 66 Big Band for their 25th anniversary Irish theatre tour, calling at 15 venues nationwide, including a stop at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre on April 13 next.

This exciting group will treat the South Offaly audience to 'Music through the Ages' with plenty of big band sounds, jazz standards, soul, rock and roll and 21st century classics.

The varied musical journey on Saturday, April 13 will take you on a cruise from the 1940s right up to today's hits packing a punch with a 10-piece brass section.

The east coast-based big band is composed of top class professional musicians including former showband members, former RTE concert Orchestra and past Garda band musicians.

The band is fronted on this tour by award-winning vocalist Dickie Donnelly, who is currently signed to the Belfast-based Singers Secreto Agency as a wedding and corporate entertainer, and wedding band sensation Lisa Kelly.

Singer Dickie also recently signed a short contract with Norwegian Cruise Liners for two short slots over the summer season.

He said he is delighted to return to the stage for this tour as the big band celebrate the 25 year milestone, and very proud to bring the the show to his local theatre in Birr with plenty of guests joining in the musical fun.

The Birr show will feature local special guests 'Elvis' legend Paul Murphy, theatre and musical star Heather Colohan and local crooner Diarmuid Guinan.

Route 66 Big Band is a regular fixture at the Rose of Tralee and Cork Jazz Festival every summer.
