New pay deal agreed at Offaly power plant

SIPTU members employed at Edenderry Power Plant have voted by a large majority to accept the terms of a Labour Court recommendation which will provide them with a pay increase of 9.25% over two years.

SIPTU Sector Organiser, John Regan, said: “This agreement will be retrospectively applied to March 2023 and will end on the 31st March 2025. It also provides for the restoration of three extra days of leave and health insurance coverage. The company had unilaterally removed these benefits from workers who commenced work at the power station in 2020 and later.

“This agreement was secured after 12 months of negotiations at the company level and processing our members’ claim through the State’s industrial relations mechanisms.”

He added: “Our members’ position was always that all workers at the plant should be treated equally and have the same terms and conditions of employment. This goal has been achieved. As a trade union, we will always seek to secure equity for workers who do the same job no matter when they are hired. In the long run, ensuring that terms and conditions are not eroded for more recent employees protects all our members’ interests.”
