Man injured in Offaly accident last week dies in hospital

A man in his 40s who was seriously injured following an accident in Offaly last week has died in hospital.

The collision, involving a car and an SUV, happened along the R401 between Rathangan and Clonbullogue at Coolygagen on February 14 last.

The man, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore with serious injuries. He has since died.

The female driver of the SUV, aged in her 40s, also received serious injuries in the crash. She was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore for treatment. However, her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening at the time.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R401 in the Coolygagen area, between 8am and 9am on Wednesday, February 14, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

The accident happened around 8.50am on the Valentine's morning.
