Tullamore St Patrick's Day parade launched

Over 60 young members of St Mary's Youth and Community Centre joined the launch of the 2024 Tullamore St Patrick's Day Parade in the Centre last week. Also present were the Committee for the Parade, volunteers, staff and members of the Board of Management.

PRO for the parade committee and local Independent Councillor, Sean O'Brien, said it was "very fitting" to host the launch of the 2024 parade in St. Mary's Youth Centre considering the many years of assistance they had provided to the annual event. "They have always entered a fabulous float in the parade and have helped us down the years with steps and chairs for the review stand," he said, adding that all the meetings of the parade committee have also taken place in the youth centre this year.

"The young members keenly got the colours out and raised the roof as the official launch was declared, and we are always delighted to see all the organisations in the area with young members entering the parade as this is the future of the event and it leaves them with great memories" he said.

This year's parade takes place on Sunday, March 17, starting at 11.30am from the car park of the Bridge Centre, with entertainment being provided by Tullamore Comhaltas at the review stand starting at 10.45am. Grand Marshal and former Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, will address the public and cut the ribbon to officially start proceedings soon after 11am. The public are advised to be there early as a large crowd is expected.

The theme this year is 'Éire, cultúr trí ceol, caint, craic agust síocháin ar fud an domhain' which loosely translates to 'Ireland, culture through music, chat, fun and peace throughout the world.' and all participants are asked to reflect this theme in their entry to highlight various aspects of Irish culture and to express the call for peace in our world.

Official letters of invitation have been posted and emailed to over 60 organisations and the committee is asking people to start preparing now for this great event. Organisations can still enter the Parade, simply contact one of the contacts below.
