Lemanaghan fundraiser to take place this weekend
All proceeds from a major fundraising event in Ballycumber next weekend will go towards the many initiatives being undertaken by the Lemanaghan Bog Heritage and Conservation Group.
The fundraiser, which takes place in the ‘Gav Inn’ in Ballycumber on Saturday night next, January 27, at 9pm, will feature talented local musicians Niamh and Dathi, KK, and Ray, along with special guest performances.
As well as being an opportunity for the local community to come together for a great social night, the event will act as a fundraiser for Lemanaghan Bog Heritage and Conservation Group, who are actively involved in many activities in the area.
The Group is actively engaged in preserving the rich cultural and environmental heritage of the area, including restoring and protecting the delicate ecosystem of Lemanaghan Bog, organising educational programs for local schools, conserving archaeological sites, fostering community engagement, monitoring wildlife, advocating for peatland conservation, and hosting cultural events.
Through these initiatives, the group is making significant contributions to sustaining the natural and cultural legacy of Lemanaghan Bog for future generations.
The fundraising night takes place in the same week as Saint Manchan's Day, the local pattern day to Saint Manchan, which takes place on January 24 each year. The day is marked with religious services, and pilgrims to the holy well in Lemanaghan. 'Saint Manchans' is now a popular name for local sporting clubs, and the feast day provides an opportunity for communities to come together to reflect on the Saint's teachings and the spiritual healing and heritage he left behind.
The committee behind next Saturday night's fundraising event is urging the local community to attend and support the social night in 'The Gav Inn.' Tickets can be purchased from committee members and will also be available on the door on the night.
