Birr Gaelscoil pupils win school tour prize in 'found on the ground' art contest

Pupils from Gaelscoil na Laochra in Birr were recently named as winners in an environmentally-friendly art comp competition organised by MEP Grace O'Sullivan.

In the competition, entitled 'Found on the Ground', the objective was to challenge pupils in Ireland to create a piece of art using only waste materials from home or school.

Pupils from Gaelscoil na Laochra created a piece named 'An Páirc Spraoi', inspired by the wonderful playground in Birr Castle. They recreated the playground, including the treehouse!

The prize the pupils will receive is a school tour, and they were delighted to be recognised for their efforts.

MEP O'Sullivan, who represents Ireland South and is a member of the Green Party, praised the competition entrants for coming up with "countless creative ways to repurpose otherwise single-use packaging waste".

Gaelscoil na Laochra in Birr was awarded its second Green Flag last summer and is now working towards its third.
