Call out for ideas for new Art in Landscape festival in Offaly

A call out for ideas for the future development of art in the landscape in Offaly has been issued.

As part of a new Arts in the Landscape festival, there will be an event called Tionól – a gathering of ideas; a creative space to share ideas and an opportunity for participants to share their ‘big’ or ‘small’ ideas around art in the landscape.

The Art in the Landscape: Festival of Change is a two-day event planned to take place in April 2024, in venues in both Offaly and Mayo and is for local communities and people working or interested in the arts, heritage, environment, culture, tourism, local business and community development.

The festival will include an exciting programme of events that will explore and challenge our understanding and perceptions of the concept of art in the landscape. It will provide a space for learning, exchange and discussion across sectors.

The purpose of the Tionól event is to share ideas and spark conversations locally.

Do you have an interest in, work in or volunteer in arts, heritage, culture, tourism, community development, the environment or economic development? Are you a local community member living near Lough Boora Sculpture Park in Offaly or the Tír Sáile Trail in North Mayo? Perhaps you have an idea for an Art in the Landscape project or event you would like to share?

Please note this is not a call for project proposals that will be implemented, but for ideas that will inspire future thinking.

If you have an idea, you would like to share and discuss at the Tionól event you can submit it for consideration. Ideas will be shortlisted based on having a mix of ideas from different sectors at the event. Selected presenters will have presentation slots of 10 minutes each. Please indicate if you would like to take part in the Offaly or Mayo event.

Deadline for ideas is Monday, February 12. Please visit www.offaly.ie/arts and access the survey link on the Tionól – Art in the Landscape Festival of Change page.

Tionól will take place in Offaly at Esker Arts Centre, Tullamore on Friday, April 5.

North Mayo - Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet on Friday, April 12.

The Festival of Change is part of Art in the Landscape, a project led by Offaly County Council in collaboration with partner organisations Bord Na Móna, Lough Boora Sculpture Park, Mayo County Council and Visual Artist Ireland.

The project takes its inspirations from Lough Boora Sculpture Park in County Offaly and Tír Sáile Sculpture Trail in North Mayo; the two largest sculpture trail/ park in Ireland.

This project is funded by the Arts Council’s An Invitation to Collaboration Scheme.
