Two Offaly winners at first Irish Steel Awards

Two Offaly companies were honoured at the first Irish Steel Awards in the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise in recent days.

Coughlan Engineering (Tullamore) Ltd, was named the winner of the Finished Projects Steelwork in Facades award at the Irish Steel Awards Night & Dinner in the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise.

The local firm was honoured for its work on Ennis Community College.

Founded by Tom Coughlan and acquired by In Granite Ltd in 1998, the company has evolved into one of the top ten architectural metalwork and sheet metal fabricators in Ireland, serving the construction industry.

Some of the high profile projects they have been involved with in recent years include a new academy building at Maynooth University, O'Devaney Gardens in Dublin and guard rails at Curragh Racecourse.

The other local winner was Castle Paints Ltd, who scooped the Extra Mile Awards Environmental & Sustainability award for their success in VOC reduction, using water based alternatives and recycling.

Castle Paints, described as paint manufacturing specialists for industry, agricultural buildings and interior or exterior projects, is located at a state-of-art facility in Cloncollig Industrial Estate.

Pat Enright, founder of the Irish Steel Fabricators Association, said: "The Irish Steel Awards aim to shine a spotlight on the incredible work being done in the steel industry across Ireland.

"It is a chance for professionals and companies to showcase their achievements, inspire innovation, and celebrate the future of the industry. We're excited that Coughlan Engineering and Castle Paints are winners in our inaugural event."

The Irish Steel Awards is organised to recognise and honour the exceptional contributions and accomplishments of individuals, companies, and organisations within the steel industry.

The event brought together professionals, experts, and enthusiasts from various corners of the industry to celebrate their outstanding achievements.
