Prizegiving for winners of county final art and essay competitions on Friday

Over the past number of weeks, primary school pupils throughout the county were invited and encouraged to participate in county hurling final themed painting, colouring and essay competitions.

There were various categories for Junior Infants up to Fourth Class and for Fifth and Sixth Classes and the winners in each category will be presented with their prize - an Offaly GAA jersey - from 7pm on Friday evening, October 13, in the County Arms Hotel, Birr.

The standard was exceptionally high and many thanks to all the schools and pupils who submitted some top class entries.

The winners are:

Junior Infants - Rowan Hayden, Crinkle NS.

Senior Infants - Mia Evans, Mercy Primary School, Birr.

First Class - Finn Cummins, Crinkle NS.

Second Class - Lottie Grainger, Coolderry NS.

Third Class - Callum Ormond, Shinrone NS.

Fourth Class - Grace O’Meara, Killeen NS.

Fifth Class - Antoni Sosowski, Crinkle NS - essay entitled ‘When My Team Won The Final’.

Sixth Class - Ruby Delaney, Mercy Primary School, Birr - essay on Mick Spain, Drumcullen and Birr.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, October 14, the eve of the county hurling final, St Brendan’s Community School will be the venue for a ‘Future Stars’ festival of hurling featuring U8 players from throughout the county and beyond.

This will be a very enjoyable day for the ‘Future Stars’, their coaches and their parents, with the action, involving sixteen teams, getting underway from 11am.
