Traffic calming project approved for Walsh Island
Fianna Fail Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick has welcomed the final decision as proposed and adopted at the September meeting of the Edenderry Municipal District to proceed with a traffic calming project for Walsh Island village.
The process started back in March 2023 and followed on from submissions made by residents and members of the community to the roads safety design team of Offaly County Council. A plan was then designed to ensure safety for all road users.
Cllr Fitzpatrick says Walsh Island village residents had expressed concerns for safety for a number of years and now, works will commence within the next couple of weeks as soon as the contractor is available to start.
He stressed that he will continue to highlight the concerns of other towns and villages across the area and their issues with safety due to speeding, and make representations to Offaly County Council to ensure the same traffic calming measures are put in place across the county as are in place in adjoining counties such as Laois, Westmeath, Kildare, etc.
