Former Irish rugby international and broadcaster, Donncha O’Callaghan, who oversaw the judging process, described the Offaly club as "a really worthy recipient", adding : “Walsh Island is a fantastic club whose investment in new stop nets will have a very positive impact, both on those that are playing football and those that are using its walking track.”

Two previous County winners were Offaly winners were Drumcullen GAA Club (2021) and Cappincur’s Offaly Rowing Club (2022).
