There are Offaly touches aplenty on the walls of the newly-opened Murphy's pub in the heart of New York City.

And the nods to the Faithful County are not surprising given that the business is being run by Clara men Trevor Kelly and Danny Price, along with Monaghan native Tony Meegan.

Murphy's, situated on 52nd Street and 2nd Avenue, was formerly known as Sweet Annie's.

It reopened under its new name on Friday last, August 25, and Trevor got in touch with the Offaly Independent to share some photos of the local mementos on display.

These include framed newspaper pages marking Shane Lowry's golfing successes, along with a flag from the 2022 Masters which was signed by Trevor and Danny's fellow Clara native.

Dublin artist Simon Robinson was commissioned to produce a vintage Guinness label in tribute to Trevor's grandfather, John C. Kelly of Kilbride, Clara.

An Offaly map is framed on the wall, along with vintage Guinness labels commemorating Kathleen Carey's pub in Clara, Thomas Daly's pub in Clara, and William Ryan's pub in Horseleap.

There are also signed book covers on the wall by a range of Irish sports stars including Kellie Harrington, Andy Moran, Paul McGrath, and others.

Trevor described the pub as an Irish sports bar and neighbourhood pub which is backing the Buffalo Bills NFL team and the Pittsburgh Panthers in American college football and basketball.

Serving comfort food, and with an event space upstairs, Murphy's is sure to be a popular meeting spot for Offaly people visiting the Big Apple.

Trevor, Danny, and Tony Meegan also run the Jameson's Irish pub on nearby 49th Street and 2nd Avenue, which had been trading successfully since it opened last December.
