Introducing The Boomtown Rats at Cavan festival

Athlone's Pete Casey was honoured to be invited by his great friend Bob Geldof to come to Cavan on Saturday, to introduce the The Boomtown Rats on stage for the Cavan Calling Festival, where they were playing outdoors in Egg Market Square in Cavan town. The band did a very special tribute to the late Sinéad O'Connor on the night.

Having introduced every band from the Hothouse Flowers to Jools Holland on stages over the years, the Athlone dj and radio presenter said it was a real pleasure to be part of the event, and spend time with the band.

The Boomtown Rats has been fronted by singer Bob Geldof since the 1970s. They enjoyed a series of Irish and UK hits in 1970s and early 1980s, including 'Like Clockwork, 'Rat Trap', 'I Don't Like Mondays' and 'Banana Republic'.

The rock band is currently promoting their latest album 'Citizens Boomtown' released in 2020, and a lead single, 'Trash Glam Baby'.
