Locals climb Kilmanjaro in aid of children's charity

Local man Donie Coughlan and Jennifer Teehan recently undertook a six-day climb of Kilmanjaro in aid of a children's charity.

Donie and Jennifer said that they liked the idea of giving themselves a challenge while trying to help others so they decided to raise money for a fund which is close to their hearts.

“The organisation we want to donate to is an amazing charity, Aoibheann's Pink Tie. This charity provides financial and practical support to the families of children suffering from childhood cancer and who are attending St John's Oncology Ward in Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin. Families are often lost in the mix when their children go through this battle but it’s not just the child that is affected, it’s the whole family.”

Seir Kieran GAA Club congratulated Donie and Jennifer on the impressive feat, saying: “Well done to Donie and Jennifer who have made it to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro. All proceeds from the climb are going to Aoibheann's Pink Tie.” Donie is currently a member of Seir Kieran's Hurling Club.

Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the highest mountain in Africa and stands at 5,895 metres, making it the highest free standing structure in the world.

Donie and Jennifer have raised €6,620 to date, completely surpassing their original target of €5,000. To donate to the fundraiser visit www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/ClareenToKilimanjaro
