Ferbane AC athlete wins Edenderry 10-mile race

With the end of the Offaly Athletics Endurance Series fast approaching, it fell to Edenderry AC to host the penultimate round of the series with 346 runners completing their annual 10-mile road race.

Fortunately, it was a bright, mild morning with no serious heat or thunder showers for the runners to worry about. Edenderry AC must be congratulated for their organisational skills with loads of volunteers ensuring a top-notch event was delivered with aplomb. The race was especially pleasing for Ferbane AC as Mick Fogarty put in a masterful performance to take first place in a phenomenal time of 53:49.

Mick's excellent early season form has continued into the latter stages of both race series and silverware looks assured for a guy whose athletic ability is only matched by his admirable temperament and affability off the course.

Donough McBrearty also completed the race in less than an hour, recording a time of 59:43.

First female for the club was the fantastic Bridget O'Sullivan, who is having one of her best seasons ever, coming home in a time of 1:10:37.

Ferbane AC acknowledges and congratulates all members who made the long trip over to Edenderry. A special mention must be made of the supporters especially those at mile 9 who gave the runners a lift when energy levels were running low.

The next race is the Rhode AC 5K taking place this Friday, July 21st at 7:30pm. The club is calling on members to come out in force to support this event also. See you there!
