New Chief Supt for Laois/Offaly Garda Division
A new Chief Superintendent has been appointed to the Laois/Offaly and Kildare Garda Division, to replace John Scanlan, who retired as Chief Superintendent in April after 14 years at the helm.
The new Chief Supt, Anthony Lonergan, was previously stationed in Waterford city, in the Waterford/Kilkenny/Carlow Division. His appointment, which was announced on Monday of this week as part of a range of promotions and transfers, will take immediate effect.
Chief Supt Lonergan will be based in Portlaoise, which is earmarked to become the headquarters of the Laois/Offaly and Kildare Garda Division.
Although the former Chief Supt for the local garda division was a native of Limerick, John Scanlan made his home in the county Laois village of Cullohill.
